Do you feel like you have to “crack your wip” to be heard? You are not alone.
If you want children to listen here are a few easy tips:
1. Short requests. Stop over explaining. Be careful your tone is calm and neutral.
2. Don’t parent from the other room. Tap them on the shoulder, make eye contact.
3. Be clear about your expectations. Have house rules, make lists, write things down.
4. Be consistent. When bad behaviour gets them what they want the behaviour will continue.
5. Use timers and visuals.
Some children are more difficult. They need more support. More reminders, visuals and patience.
Set them up for success.
